Bastien Aubry, a Swiss artist born in 1974 in Saint-Imier, attended the Ecole d'Arts Visuels Berne et Bienne in Switzerland. Since 2010, he has been a part of the artist group Aubry Broquard, which has been featured in numerous exhibitions worldwide, including the Swiss Institute of Contemporary Art in New York and MABA in Paris. Since 2017, Aubry has pursued his sculptural practice as a solo artist. His artistic approach involves alienating everyday objects in a playful and ironic way, creating fascinating visual effects by blending design, art history, and pop culture. His creations celebrate the poetry of failure and the beauty of the less than perfect, an accident by design. Aubry stages reality in his own world, exposing everyday absurdities and playing with the boundaries set by traditional artistic practices. Three-dimensional works are constrained by the material they are made of, and for Aubry, it is essential to recognize the physical properties of each material in order to experiment with visually exciting effects. To achieve this, he often exaggerates, enlarges, stacks, fills, crushes, and more, always adding an element of surprise and spontaneity to his oeuvre.
