Ali Kazim, a prominent contemporary artist hailing from Pakistan, achieved a significant milestone in 2019 by becoming the inaugural South Asian artist-in-residence at the esteemed Ashmolean Museum. Drawing inspiration from the rich Eastern Art collections and their historical context, Kazim viewed his time at the museum as a transformative opportunity to reimagine the objects in his own artistic practice. Consequently, the upcoming exhibition and accompanying catalogue will primarily showcase Kazim's deep engagement with the Ashmolean collections and the works he created during the period from 2019 to 2021.

Widely exhibited and cherished internationally, including prestigious institutions such as the British Museum, V&A, Metropolitan Museum, and Queensland Art Gallery, Kazim's artistic journey has garnered widespread recognition. Hailing from Pakistan, he continues to reside and work in his homeland, contributing to the vibrant art scene of Pakistan.

The exhibition and book presented by the Ashmolean Museum offer a remarkable opportunity to engage a diverse and wider audience, while also showcasing the exceptional works of a contemporary multidisciplinary artist who draws profound strength and inspiration from the Ashmolean collections.
