Social science and classical studies have a long history of successful engagement, with social science providing new approaches to understanding ancient Greece and classical Greek history and culture being a touchstone for social theorists. Recent work has used methods from anthropology, sociology, and psychology to produce fundamental insights into classical Greece and its cultural legacy, as well as quantitative methods and formal theory to understand ancient Greek economic and political development.
