Angelita, a young woman from a small mountain village in Andalucia, lived a sheltered life until her adolescence. Fueled by the hostile gossip surrounding her father and the restrictions imposed on visiting him in Madrid, she resorted to committing a crime that shattered the community she had known all her life. Imprisoned, she managed to escape by taking a guard's life and fleeing the village. Now, on the run, she must embark on a perilous journey disguised as a boy to reach Madrid and reunite with her father.
Upon arriving in Madrid, Angelita joins a group of young individuals, including members of the International Brigade against Franco, who are tirelessly protesting the killings and incarcerations of those who oppose the government. The denial of rights and justice for women becomes the focal point of her cause. Using her poetic and musical talents, she organizes covert performances throughout Madrid, reaching out to those in power who have grown disillusioned with the government's actions.
The risks are immense, and survival hinges on the trust she places in her friends, sheer luck, and, ultimately, the love she finds. Angelita's journey is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of unwavering determination in the face of adversity.
