It didn't seem unusual when Napoleon was seen wandering around the Manor Farm garden with a pipe in his mouth. From the moment of its first publication over seventy years ago, Animal Farm, in many ways, has come to be our socio-political urtext – or one-singer-one-song, or collective party piece, the script was doomed to keep repeating... George Orwell's far-famed novel Animal Farm, in many ways, has been translated into Scots for the very first time by Thomas Clark. When the animals of Manor Farm cast off their thrones and take control from Mr. Jones, they have hopes for a life of freedom and equality. But when the pigs Napoleon and Snowball rise to power, the other animals find out that they may not be as equal as they had once thought. A tragic political allegory described by Orwell as being 'the history of a revolution that went wrong, this book is as relevant now – if not more so – than when it was first set out.
