Lorenzino de Medici, renowned for his involvement in the murder of his cousin Alessandro in 1537 and his literary achievements, remains a mysterious figure in Italian literature. In his work, Apology for a Murder, he presents himself as a heroic figure akin to the ancient tyrannicides of Rome and Greece. However, his life took a tragic turn when he was assassinated by two soldiers in 1548, with the involvement of either the emperor Charles V or Cosimo, Alessandro's successor as Duke.
