Arado-Flugzeugwerke, founded in 1925 in Warnemunde, initially produced civil aircraft and developed prototypes for the Reichswehr's clandestine armament program. The factory began licensed military aircraft production in 1933, and also built several of its own designs. Notable Arado aircraft include the training aircraft Ar 66 and Ar 96, the catapult float-plane Ar 196, and the record-breaking sporting aircraft Ar 79. With the two- or four-engined Ar 234, the world's first operational jet-bomber was born. At the end of the war, Arado initiated the project for the first supersonic experimental aircraft.

This book charts the development of all Arado aircraft between 1925 and 1945, as well as the development and capabilities of the factory. It also provides an overview of license-productions and other projects. The information is based on original documents and aims to rectify some of the speculation and fantasy published about the Arado-Flugzeugwerke.
