Patrick's ten-man mission sets sail for the Irish kingdom of Brega, only to be swiftly expelled by the king's warriors upon their arrival. Seeking refuge, they align themselves with a group of outlaws, nurturing their humble beginnings into the establishment of their first church. However, when Patrick ignites an Easter fire, violating druid customs during a national gathering of kings near Tara, Matho, the Arch-druid of Ireland, intervenes. He orchestrates a confrontation between Patrick and the High King, intending for Patrick to face consequences. Yet, Matho's deceitfulness ensnares him, allowing Patrick to turn the hearing in his favor. Through his persuasive arguments, Patrick gains the High King's acceptance of his mission, while the arch-druid loses his seniority, fostering a lifelong animosity towards Patrick.
Amidst the challenges, Patrick loses a cherished champion upon the passing of High King Niall. Furthermore, the succeeding king reinstates Matho to power, exacerbating Patrick's plight. The Arch-druid, driven by malice, hatches a meticulously planned atrocity aimed at dismantling Patrick's flourishing church. This climaxes in the horrifying spectacle of Patrick being burned at the stake, with Matho taunting him, "Where is your god now?" as the flames consume his robes.
