The book "Tropical Coasts: Vulnerability and Management" explores the challenges faced by tropical coasts, which are highly susceptible to various stressors. The population is rapidly growing, habitats are being lost, and biodiversity is declining at an alarming rate, significantly impacting numerous ecosystem services. This situation necessitates effective coastal management and the active involvement of all relevant stakeholders. Approximately two decades ago, the M.Sc. program ISATEC (International Studies in Aquatic Tropical Ecology) was established at Bremen University in Germany to equip young scientists with the skills necessary for professional engagement in the intricate realm of tropical coastal and resource management. This book serves as a platform for ISATEC alumni to share their work experiences and findings in their respective home countries, covering all regions within the tropical belt. Part I of the book offers a concise review of the current state of the tropical ocean and its resources, as well as international efforts towards sustainable ocean management, beginning with the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development in 1992. Part II delves into country case studies, while Part III provides an evaluation and summary of these contributions.
