  • More about Class 67s

In the late 1990s, English, Welsh & Scottish Railway (EWS) ordered a fleet of 250 Class 66 locomotives to replace freight locomotive types. EWS also required something with more performance and electric train supply for hauling charter and mail trains. A partnership with Royal Mail resulted in the Class 67s moving post around the country. When Royal Mail ended the arrangement in 2004, the Class 67s were pushed into other areas of work, including light freight and occasional passenger services, and charters. The design of the Class 67s has not been to everyone's taste, but they have been reliable with only occasional failures. This book contains 220 images of all 30 locos in the class during their first two decades in service.

In the late 1990s, English, Welsh & Scottish Railway (EWS) embarked on a significant endeavor to procure a substantial fleet of 250 Class 66 locomotives, aimed at replacing a diverse range of freight locomotive types that had been in service with British Rail for numerous years. However, EWS sought additional capabilities, including enhanced performance and electric train supply, to handle charter and mail trains, which remained prevalent at that time. This led to a partnership with Royal Mail, resulting in the Class 67s taking on the task of transporting post across the country. Unfortunately, this arrangement came to an end in 2004, forcing the Class 67s to diversify their workload into other areas such as light freight, occasional passenger services, and continued charters. While the design of the Class 67s may not be to everyone's liking, they certainly add a welcome variety to the modern rail landscape. Over the past 20 years, these locomotives have proven to be highly reliable, with only occasional failures. This comprehensive book, featuring 220 images, showcases all 30 locos in the class during their initial two decades of service.
