- More about Comics and Archaeology
The book explores how comics transmit knowledge of the past and how this refraction of the past shapes our understanding of society and politics in damaging ways, focusing on the representation and narrative use of material cultures. It fulfills its objectives through three reception studies and three chapters by comic creators.
Format: Paperback / softback
Length: 177 pages
Publication date: 08 October 2023
Publisher: Springer Nature Switzerland AG
This book contributes to the limited scholarly discourse on how comics convey historical knowledge and how this refraction of the past influences our perception of society and politics, sometimes in detrimental ways. By adopting a specifically archaeological perspective, the volume highlights the representation and narrative use of material cultures. It achieves its goals through three reception studies in the first part of the volume and three chapters by comic creators in the second part. All six chapters seek to address a set of fundamental questions about the power inherent in various types of drawn images.
