Dedicated to the memory of Oliver Knussen, George Benjamin's 2021 Concerto for Orchestra premiered at the BBC Proms by the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Benjamin stated that the piece aims to evoke a trace of the energy, humor, and spirit" of Knussen. Spanning an unbroken 17 minutes, the concerto is diverse and dynamic, featuring skittish lines contrasted with still, suspended ones. It showcases remarkable performances by its various instrumental protagonists.
