- More about Dear Ana
Leticia Valverde's project "Postcards from the Edge of the World" is a lyrical manifestation of her award-winning project that explores transgenerational trauma, longing, migration, and the divide between two cultures. It resulted in a magical collaboration with the inhabitants of Anas birthplace, the village of Mundão, who wrote postcards to her now-dead grandmother. The project is a personal yet universal story that speaks to the current debates about borders, nationalism, and migration in Europe.

Leticia Valverde's award-winning project, "A Lyrical Manifestation," took her on a journey back to her grandmother's motherland, Portugal. Through this extraordinary project, she collaborated with the inhabitants of Anas birthplace, the village of Mundão. By inviting the villagers to write a postcard to her now deceased grandmother, they became the fictional friends she believed she had while dying with Alzheimer's disease in Brazil. The project combines photography, poetic text, cyanotypes, and votive offerings to explore transgenerational trauma, longing, migration, and the complexities of feeling divided between two cultures. A hundred years after the events, this is an ideal time to tell this story, as Europe is grappling with debates about borders, nationalism, and migration.
