After thoroughly examining the various theories surrounding the stigmatization of individuals living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), this book delves into the study of social mechanisms that perpetuate such stigma in China. By applying social exclusion theory, actor theory, and stigma theory, the book aims to shed light on the influence and mechanisms of stigmatization on PLWHA, while also attempting to construct a policy framework to combat stigmatization from the perspective of welfare pluralism.
A qualitative analysis approach was employed, and data was collected through semi-structured depth interviews. Thirty PLWHA and seventeen healthy individuals (non-infected people and staff from ASO Service Organizations) were randomly selected using random sampling and snowball sampling techniques, respectively, for in-depth interviews. The research focuses on examining the treatments and living conditions of PLWHA, with the primary objective of exploring the impact of HIV on their education, employment, medical care, economy, welfare, and social relationships.
This book is specifically designed for graduate students, researchers, and policymakers who are interested in this field. It provides valuable insights into the experiences of PLWHA and offers valuable recommendations for addressing and combating stigmatization in China.
