Joe King Oliver was once considered one of the NYPD's most skilled investigators until he was sent to apprehend a wealthy car thief and ended up being framed for assault, which resulted in his imprisonment at the notorious Rikers Island prison. A decade later, King has transitioned into the role of a private detective, operating his agency alongside his teenage daughter, Aja-Denise. One day, he receives a card in the mail from a woman who confesses to being paid by someone within the NYPD to frame him all those years ago. Realizing that he has no other option, King decides to take on his case: uncovering the identity of the individual or individuals who wanted him eliminated and understanding the motive behind their actions.

Concurrently, King is tasked with investigating the case of Leonard Compton, a black radical journalist known as A Free Man, who has been accused of killing two on-duty police officers who were engaged in the trafficking of drugs and women into the city's most impoverished neighborhoods. In his quest for justice, King must confront corrupt cops and even more unscrupulous bankers. Throughout this journey, two lives are at stake: Compton's and King's own.

As King delves deeper into the investigation, he uncovers a web of corruption and deceit that extends far beyond the two cases he is working on. He discovers that there is a larger conspiracy at play, involving high-ranking officials within the NYPD and even some members of the political establishment. King must navigate through a treacherous landscape, where his every move could be dangerous and his life is constantly in jeopardy.

Despite the overwhelming odds, King remains determined to bring those responsible for his wrongful imprisonment and the deaths of the two police officers to justice. He relies on his instincts, his knowledge of the law, and the support of his family and friends to stay one step ahead of his enemies. As the investigation reaches its climax, King must make a final sacrifice to ensure that the truth is revealed and that justice is served.

In the end, King emerges as a hero, a symbol of hope for those who have been wronged by the system. His story serves as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, there is always the power of the truth to bring about change and that justice can be achieved even in the darkest of times.
