Egyptair, originally known as Misr Airwork, embarked on its journey in the 1930s. Initially, it operated solely within Egypt, expanding its horizons to international routes in 1939. However, the onset of World War Two temporarily halted its development. Nevertheless, the company gained a significant advantage through the disposal of regional aircraft by the Allies. This allowed Egyptair to modernize its fleet and enhance its services.
Following the formation of the United Arab Republic in 1958 by Egypt and Syria, the airline underwent a name change to United Arab Airlines (UAA). Syrian Airways was merged into UAA, and the latter assumed control of all routes and equipment previously utilized by Syrian carrier. At this juncture, the fleet welcomed its first jets.
As relations with the United States became strained, Egyptair increasingly relied on Soviet aircraft. In 1971, the airline underwent another name change, this time to Egyptair. During the 1970s, Egyptair was able to acquire American-made aircraft, further expanding its fleet and capabilities.
In 2002, the establishment of the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation and the transition from government ownership to a holding company structure with subsidiaries paved the way for Egyptair to participate in collaboration with other airlines, including Air Sinai. Subsequently, in 2006, a regional subsidiary, Egyptair Express, was established to further enhance its reach and services within the region.
This comprehensive book, featuring over 110 images, chronicles the remarkable story of Egypt's flag carrier, from its inception to the present day. It delves into the historical milestones, technological advancements, and strategic partnerships that have shaped Egyptair's journey, making it a prominent player in the global aviation industry.
