A resource designed to assist individuals, couples, or groups in embracing the spirit of Lent through the intersection of classical Hatha Yoga practice and Christian spirituality. The eight sessions can be performed either on a chair or on an exercise mat indoors or outdoors.

At its essence, this book serves as a comprehensive exploration of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, which is rich in universal opposites, paradoxes, and dualisms: "A time to be born and a time to die... a time for love and a time for hate." Lent is a period when many Christians focus on Jesus' confrontation with the opposing forces of good and evil in the desert, as well as his final days leading to his crucifixion.

The author holds the belief that mind-body dualism in any sector can be dangerous, but in religious communities, it can be toxic. "In our digital age, this is the season for embodiment," she asserts. "The holistic modality of yoga offers a toolbox for more embodied wholeness, unity, and peace—moment by moment." Paying attention to ourselves as autonomous subjects rather than objects can lead to greater compassion, empathy, and well-being. For me, Jesus-centered embodiment is the path toward better self-care, improved relationships with others, the Earth, and all living things, as well as deeper intimacy with the Source of all breath.

Pauline Steenbergen is an Associate Member of the Iona Community, a Church of Scotland minister, a Spiritual Director, an ecumenical pioneer, and a Yoga Scotland teacher. The book is spiral-bound for ease of use.
