This study expands upon a report released by CSIS in 2020, which explored strategies for the United States to strengthen democratic partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region. Building upon this foundation, this follow-up endeavor encompasses comprehensive case studies on the democracy support initiatives undertaken by Australia, Japan, India, Indonesia, South Korea, and Taiwan. These case studies provide valuable insights into the diverse approaches and approaches taken by these countries in promoting democracy. Additionally, the study conducts comparisons of democracy support strategies, analyzes data on official development assistance (ODA) funding related to democracy, and offers recommendations for how the United States can effectively coordinate its democracy support initiatives with like-minded partners, regional networks, and institutions. By undertaking this research, the study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the Indo-Pacific region in promoting democratic values and institutions.
