In the early months of 2016, I found myself confined to a hospital bed at the renowned Royal Marsden in Fulham, grappling with a terminal cancer diagnosis. Amidst this challenging time, I resolved to pen down my thoughts on my unwavering faith in Christ, delving into its essence and the profound ways it had been shaped and tested throughout my life, navigating the unpredictable and often harsh world. My starting point for this introspection was to examine the concept of sin and its consequences, laying the foundation for me to explain the indispensable nature of salvation and its transformative power. I have chosen this as my focal point, as it is where faith truly begins.
The central message of this book is to acknowledge that, as a Christian, life can be a tumultuous journey filled with profound pain, confusion, and disillusionment, yearning for meaningful answers to profound questions. This book takes an honest and candid look at faith, exploring it through the lens of someone who has experienced the security and comfort of Christianity from childhood, yet along the way became one of the most skeptical observers of the Christianity surrounding me. It was this skepticism that pushed me to the brink of questioning the very faith I thought I possessed. This dilemma is one that I believe many Christians face, and I hope that this book will provide them with the encouragement, support, and determination to persevere.
In my pursuit of understanding genuine faith and distinguishing it from mere belief, I aim to examine what it truly entails and what it does not. I seek to highlight that the person of genuine faith must anticipate and be prepared for their faith to be put to the test by God Himself, with His purpose being to refine and strengthen it. The conclusion that this book as a whole alludes to is that, while faith may not always yield immediate results, the unwavering faithfulness of what God has accomplished through Jesus Christ ensures that faith always works, regardless of the circumstances.
Through my journey of writing this book, I have discovered that faith is not merely a blind belief or a superficial adherence to religious principles. It is a deep-rooted conviction that transcends the limitations of our human understanding and finds its fulfillment in the person and work of Jesus Christ. It is a journey of trust, surrender, and obedience, where we embrace the truth that God is in control and that His plans for our lives are always good.
In the face of adversity and uncertainty, faith provides us with a sense of hope and purpose. It gives us the strength to persevere through difficult times and the courage to face our fears and doubts. It reminds us that we are not alone in our struggles and that God is always present and working on our behalf.
Moreover, faith offers us a meaningful connection to others and to a greater community. It fosters a sense of belonging and solidarity, as we join together in our shared belief and strive to live out the teachings of Christ in our daily lives. It is a source of comfort and reassurance, knowing that we are loved unconditionally by a God who cares deeply for us.
In conclusion, my faith in Christ has been the anchor that has carried me through the storms of life. It has shaped my character, guided my decisions, and provided me with a sense of purpose and meaning. I hope that this book will inspire and encourage others to explore their faith and discover the transformative power it holds. As we navigate the unpredictable and often challenging world around us, let us hold onto the unwavering faithfulness of what God has accomplished through Jesus Christ, knowing that faith always works, regardless of the circumstances.
