My first book, 'Fire! Fire! The Theatres on Fire,' was published in 2022 and focused on the devastating effect of theatres impacted by fire. It was nominated for 'The STR Theatre Book Prize 2022' and received compliments from many people. My second book, 'Theatres at Risk: A Tribute to Theatre Appreciation Societies,' is about theatres that are still standing but are extremely vulnerable. It was created in 2006 and records theatres that are in need of considerable help, effort, and support from many organizations. I have selected fifteen theatres and have completed extensive research on their history, including the now infamous 'Did You Know...? gossip section. I hope that the members of the 'Save the Theatre societies' are successful in their efforts and that we see many more 'Theatres At Risk saved for posterity.' I would ask readers of this book to join me in assisting or donating to these good causes whenever possible.

In 2022, I published my first book, 'Fire! Fire! The Theatres on Fire,' which delved into the devastating impact of fires on theaters. The book received a nomination for the 'The STR Theatre Book Prize 2022,' an annual award presented by the Society for Theatre Research. The response from readers who purchased my first book was truly heartwarming, and I hope that they will enjoy my second book just as much.

The focus of this book is on theaters that are still standing but are extremely vulnerable. Many of these theaters are identified in the official 'Theatres at Risk Register,' published annually since 2006. This register records theaters that require considerable help, effort, and support from various organizations to prevent their loss forever. Fortunately, with the support of these organizations, some theaters have been removed from the list.

My first encounter with a theater closure was the sudden closure of my local theater, 'Dewsbury Empire,' in March 1955. The impact of this closure was far-reaching, affecting my family, community, town, and the theater world as a whole. As a tribute to the tireless work of theater appreciation societies, I have selected fifteen theaters and conducted extensive research on their history, including the infamous 'Did You Know...?' gossip section.

I sincerely hope that the members of the 'Save the Theatre societies' will be successful in their magnificent efforts to preserve these theaters for posterity. I urge readers of this book to join me in assisting or donating to these good causes whenever possible.

The preservation of theaters is a crucial endeavor, as they are not only cultural landmarks but also vital spaces for communities. These spaces provide a platform for artistic expression, education, and social interaction. By supporting these societies.
