The economy can be likened to a vast and unpredictable landscape, with potential hazards such as tsunamis, earthquakes, and deep valleys, as well as the potential for reaching high peaks and standing in front of the fiscal cliff. The fiscal cliff, in particular, is a metaphorical representation of an abrupt and uncontrolled economic collapse, with state leaders falling down cliffs as a satirical archetype. This metaphor is further reinforced by the cliffs' cultural appearances, making it a cultural icon in its own right. The topographic metaphor is used as a starting point for a visual game in the publication Fiscal Cliff, where symbols and characters must deal with the fiscal fall. There are various reasons why the fiscal cliff occurs, but once it arrives, it will impact us all. Erlend Peder Kvam, an artist and illustrator based in Oslo, has worked with clients such as Bloomberg Businessweek, Medium Editorial, BENEE, and Pom Poko. He has also been associated with the performative design collective Narves1biblioteket and co-founded the zine label Foot Books in 2020.
