To make the most of your hillwalking experience in these regions, we have divided the hills into five sections:

Charnwood Forest: Located in the north of Leicestershire, Charnwood Forest is a sprawling area of woodland and open countryside. It is home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, foxes, and badgers, and offers a range of walking trails and routes.

North Leicestershire: North Leicestershire is a picturesque area characterized by rolling hills, picturesque villages, and historic landmarks. It is home to the famous Belvoir Castle, which is a stunning example of a Norman castle, and the National Trust's Grantham House, a grand Georgian mansion.

South Leicestershire: South Leicestershire is a rural area with a rich history and a variety of landscapes. It is home to the Battle of Bosworth Field, where King Richard III was defeated in 1485, and the National Trust's Boughton Monchelsea Place, a grand Tudor mansion.

East Leicestershire: East Leicestershire is a picturesque area characterized by rolling hills, picturesque villages, and historic landmarks. It is home to the famous Melton Mowbray, which is known for its traditional pork pies and the Melton Mowbray Bell Tower, a historic landmark.

Rutland (the county top): Rutland is the highest point in Leicestershire and Rutland, standing at an impressive 1,065 meters above sea level. It is a popular destination for hill walkers and nature enthusiasts, with a range of walking trails and routes offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

In addition to these five sections, we have included seven further hills because of their historical interest or interesting location. These hills include Waltham Abbey, which is a historic abbey with a rich history, and the Grafton Monument, which is a memorial to the Duke of Grafton.
