This book explores how artists have responded to the Gallery's collection over the last 200 years, with Hockney's interactions with the Gallery playing a significant role in his development as a painter. The book also recognizes the relationship between contemporary artists, the public, and the Gallery's collection for two centuries, including the pioneering exhibition series "The Artists Eye," in which artists acted as curators to share Gallery pictures in new ways with broad audiences.
