In this atmospheric, terrifying novel that draws strongly from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, the author of Alice and Lost Boy works her trademark magic, spinning an engaging and frightening new story from a classic tale.

Everyone in Sleepy Hollow knows about the Horseman, but no one really believes in him. Not even Ben Van Brunt's grandfather, Brom Bones, who was there when it was said the Horseman chased the upstart Crane out of town. Brom says that's just legend, the village gossips talking.

More than thirty years after those storied events, the village is a quiet place. Fourteen-year-old Ben loves to play Sleepy Hollow boys, reenacting the events Brom once lived through. But then Ben and a friend stumble across the headless body of a child in the woods near the village, and the discovery makes Ben question everything the adults in Sleepy Hollow have ever said. Could the Horseman be real after all? Or does something even more sinister stalk the woods?

The Horseman has been a legend in Sleepy Hollow for as long as anyone can remember. He is said to be a ghostly figure on a black horse, who rides through the woods at night, searching for his lost love. Some people believe that he is the spirit of a young man who died in a tragic accident many years ago, while others think that he is a demon sent to punish the village for its sins.

Despite the warnings of the villagers, Ben and his friend, Ichabod Crane, decide to investigate the Horseman's story. They venture into the woods, where they find a mysterious cave. Inside the cave, they discover a chest filled with ancient artifacts, including a map that leads them to the Horseman's grave.

As they approach the grave, they hear the sound of hoofs approaching. They turn around to see the Horseman riding towards them. Ben and Ichabod are terrified, but the Horseman seems to be more interested in the artifacts than in them. He takes the chest and rides away, leaving Ben and Ichabod to wonder what happened.

Days later, Ben and Ichabod return to the woods to search for the Horseman. They find him in the same cave, where he is using the artifacts to summon a powerful demon. The demon appears and attacks them, but Ben and Ichabod are able to defeat it with the help of a magical sword.

As they leave the cave, they are confronted by the Horseman, who reveals that he is actually the spirit of a young man who died in a tragic accident many years ago. He was cursed to roam the woods until he found his lost love, and he was unable to rest until he did.

Ben and Ichabod are touched by the Horseman's story and decide to help him find his lost love. They embark on a journey through the woods, where they encounter many strange and supernatural creatures. They eventually find the woman the Horseman loves, and they help her escape from the demon's grasp.

In the end, the Horseman is able to find peace and rest, and the village is saved from the demon's wrath. Ben and Ichabod become heroes in Sleepy Hollow, and their story is remembered for generations to come.

This novel is a must-read for fans of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Alice and Lost Boy. It is a thrilling and suspenseful story that will keep you reading until the very end. The author's writing is beautiful and evocative, and the characters are well-developed and memorable. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who loves a good scare.
