Brad Hunter, a renowned crime reporter and author, has dedicated over three decades to exploring some of the most heinous crimes in American history. In his latest book, "Cold Blooded Murder," Hunter delves into the mind of John Wayne Gacy, the real-life Killer Clown, who is often regarded as the inspiration for Stephen King's evil character Pennywise in "It." Gacy's modus operandi involved luring victims to his home under the pretense of offering work or a warm bed, before deceitfully handcuffing them and claiming he wanted to perform a magic trick. In reality, he subjected his victims to brutal rape and torture, ultimately killing them by suffocating or strangling them. Shockingly, twenty-six of Gacy's victims were buried in the crawl space beneath his home, while others were buried in various locations on his property. A handful of bodies were even dumped in the Des Plaines River. Despite Gacy's execution in 1994, his chilling legacy continues to haunt us. At least five of his victims remain unidentified, and detectives have long suspected that the known victims were merely the tip of the iceberg. Gacy even confided in one detective that his actual murder count was closer to forty-five victims.

The question of the exact number of victims remains unanswered, as does the question of whether Gacy acted alone. Hunter's investigation seeks to unravel the motives behind Gacy's horrific crimes, exploring the influence of his alcoholic and abusive father, as well as any deeper psychological factors that may have contributed to his behavior. Gacy, who portrayed himself as Pogo, or Patches, the Clown, was a prominent figure in local Democratic Party circles and regularly performed at children's hospitals and charitable events. Hunter's book sheds light on this dual persona, providing a comprehensive account of the life and crimes of John Wayne Gacy.

Drawing on his extensive experience as a crime reporter, Hunter meticulously investigates and interviews perpetrators of terrible crimes, seeking to understand the driving forces that led Gacy to unleash a reign of terror in suburban Chicago. Through his compelling storytelling, Hunter provides a chilling insight into the mind of a serial killer, offering a deeper understanding of the human psyche and the complexities of the criminal mind. "Cold Blooded Murder" is a must-read for anyone interested in true crime, psychology, and the darker aspects of human nature.
