Sister Mary David Totah, a Benedictine contemplative nun of St. Cecilias Abbey on the Isle of Wight, was born in America and educated at Loyola University, the University of Virginia, and Christ Church, Oxford. After a successful teaching career, she entered religious life in 1985 and served as a guide for young nuns at her abbey for 22 years until her untimely death from cancer.
