Louis Kahn's transition to the forefront of his profession coincided with the crisis of modern architecture, as his work increasingly represented the aspects of space that modernism had ambitiously excluded from its agenda. Kahn's reimagining of modern architecture's spatial paradigm is one of his most significant contributions to the field. By tracing the genesis of the unbuilt project for the Dominican Motherhouse (1965-69), we gain a close-up glimpse of Kahn at work on fundamental questions of architectural space. He explores the sources of its meaning in social, morphological, landscape, and contextual dimensions, paving the way for a subsequent section that offers a fresh perspective on several of Kahn's major works through a timely reappraisal of his oeuvre.

The result of extensive research, complemented by unpublished archival material and new analytical drawings, this affordable volume serves as an indispensable companion to Louis Kahn: Drawing to Find Out.
