The series is set in the same town as the film, Creekwood High School, and features many of the same characters. Simon, played by Nick Robinson, is a gay teenager who comes out to his family and friends after being inspired by the love story of his favorite movie star, Blue, played by Katherine Langford.
Simon's friends, including Abby, played by India Eisley, and Leah, played by Alexandra Shipp, also play significant roles in the series. They support Simon through his coming out process and help him navigate the challenges of college life.
The series explores themes of acceptance, family, and self-discovery, and deals with issues such as bullying, discrimination, and coming out. It is a heartfelt and relatable portrayal of young adulthood, and has received critical acclaim for its portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters and themes.
In addition to the TV series, there is also a new novella set in the Simonverse universe called "Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda."
