Discovering The Beatles at the age of fourteen, David Paton had no idea that one day he would work with Paul McCartney in Studio Two at Abbey Road, write a number-one worldwide hit, or spend three years touring the world and recording as a bass player with Elton John, including playing in his band at Live Aid. These achievements were well beyond his imagination – yet he did them. For David, making music was a joy and a privilege, but his career as a musician made it possible for him to meet and work with some of the world-famous artists that he idolized.
David Paton is the singer, songwriter, and bass player with the group Pilot, writing the worldwide hits "Magic," "January," and "Just a Smile." He was a member of The Alan Parsons Project for ten years and did session work with The Pretenders, Paul McCartney, Kate Bush, Chris De Burgh, Chris Rea, and Jimmy Page, to name but a few. This book gives an insight into the life of a successful songwriter and session musician. He has a lot to say, but as well as telling his story, the book also offers valuable insight into what to do – and what not to do – for creative people interested in pursuing a career in music.
David Paton's musical journey began at the age of fourteen when he discovered The Beatles. He was captivated by their music and soon started playing the guitar and writing his own songs. Despite his early success, David never lost sight of his passion for music and continued to pursue his dreams.
After years of playing in local bands, David was approached by The Alan Parsons Project, a renowned music production team. He joined the project as a bass player and spent ten years working with some of the biggest names in the music industry. During this time, he played on hit records such as "Sirius," "Eye in the Sky," and "Don't Let It Go to Your Head."
In addition to his work with The Alan Parsons Project, David also had the opportunity to collaborate with other legendary artists such as Paul McCartney, Kate Bush, Chris De Burgh, Chris Rea, and Jimmy Page. His session work on their records helped to elevate their music to new heights and brought him international recognition.
Despite his success, David remained humble and grateful for the opportunities that had come his way
way. He continued to play music and write songs, and his passion for music remained unwavering. In recent years, he has released a new album, "The Journey," which showcases his talent and dedication to his craft.
David's story is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance. He had no idea that his early love for The Beatles would lead him to such incredible achievements, but he never lost sight of his goals and worked tirelessly to make his dreams a reality. His music continues to inspire and touch the lives of millions of people around the world, and he remains a true icon of the music industry.
