It was extended and refurbished between 2015 and 2018 by Bünzli & Courvoisier, guided by urban-planning and architectural design principles. The former Bernarda teacher-training centre in Menzingen, a remarkable example of 1950s Swiss architecture, was designed by two renowned Zug architectural teams: Hanns A. Brütsch and Alois Stadler, along with Leo Hafner and Alfons Wiederkehr. Situated on a gentle slope amidst an attractive landscape between Lake Zug and Lake Zurich, the school showcases exceptional design features. The facility's staging of the exposed location, the coherent arrangement of five highly individualised buildings around a circular centre, and the notable design of the open spaces by Ernst Cramer all contribute to its architectural excellence.
In 2015 and 2018, the facility underwent an extensive extension and refurbishment project by architects Bünzli & Courvoisier. The architects approached the renovation with great respect for the existing structures, while also framing and expanding them with an undogmatic approach to blur the boundaries between old and new. The book documents the existing facility with original plans and clear-contoured, black & white pictures by renowned Lucerne photographer Peter Ammon. Furthermore, it extensively reflects upon and documents the school's exciting, exemplary renovation in detail.
