Despite his privileged upbringing and amateur status, Jardine's indomitable personality and relentless pursuit of victory bore a striking resemblance to the professional game. Faced with the formidable run-making prowess of Australia's Don Bradman during the 1932/33 tour, Jardine resorted to a form of intimidatory bowling that ultimately helped England reclaim the Ashes. However, his tactics shocked Australia and strained the delicate relations between the two countries to the brink of collapse. Despite being disowned by the MCC cricket establishment and subsequently shunned, Jardine's reputation has undergone a remarkable rehabilitation in modern times, particularly in Australia.
