  • More about Posh

The Riot Club is a satirical play about power, politics, and privilege, and how these elements interact within British institutions. It was nominated for Best New Play at the Evening Standard Awards and the Theatregoers' Choice Awards.

Format: Paperback / softback
Length: 176 pages
Publication date: 22 February 2024
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing PLC

In a quaint and rustic Oxford gastropub adorned with oak panels, a gathering of ten young undergraduates, each possessing refined accents and ample financial resources, convenes with a single-minded purpose: to reclaim their rightful place of authority and engage in revelry. These members of The Riot Club, an esteemed student dining society, find themselves at a crossroads when they realize they are one guinea fowl short and the prostitute they have enlisted for their festivities is abruptly dismissed. This apparent parody of Oxford's infamous Bullingdon Club, renowned for its past members including prominent figures such as Boris Johnson, George Osborne, and David Cameron, unfolds as a satirical play that delves into the intricate interplay of power, politics, and privilege within the British institutional framework. Presented here in the form of a Methuen Drama Student Edition, accompanied by comprehensive commentary and notes by Henry Bell, Posh takes audiences on a thought-provoking journey through the corridors of power and privilege.

The play made its debut at the Royal Court Theatre in London in 2010, and two years later, it graced the stages of the West End. Posh garnered widespread recognition, earning nominations for Best New Play at both the Evening Standard Awards and the Theatregoers' Choice Awards. Subsequently, it was adapted into a film titled "The Riot Club" (2014), featuring the talents of Sam Claflin, Max Irons, and Douglas Booth.
