The final novel in world renowned film-maker, Ingmar Bergman's trilogy of novels plotting the fractious marriage of his parents, Twelve years of marriage, three children, a husband, Henrik, with whom she no longer finds anything in common: Anna is at the end of her tether. Besides, she's in love – with Henriks friend Tomas, a student-priest, who is everything her husband is not.

Based upon film-maker, Ingmar Bergman's own family life, Personal Confessions is the final part in Bergman's loose trilogy of books that started with The Best Intentions and Sundays Children.

Anna is a woman who has been married to Henrik for twelve years. They have three children together, but Anna is no longer happy in her marriage. She is in love with Henriks friend Tomas, a student-priest who is everything Henrik is not.

Anna is struggling to cope with her feelings for Tomas. She knows that it is wrong to be in love with another man while she is married, but she cannot help her feelings. She tries to suppress her feelings, but they are always there, lurking in the background.

One day, Anna and Tomas are alone together. They talk about their feelings for each other and Anna realizes that she is in love with him. She is torn between her love for Tomas and her loyalty to Henrik.

Anna decides to tell Henrik about her feelings for Tomas. Henrik is shocked and hurt by her confession. He feels betrayed and angry. He tells Anna that he cannot be with her anymore and that she needs to leave their home.

Anna is devastated by Henrik's decision. She feels like her whole world has come crashing down around her. She moves out of their home and tries to start over.

However, Anna's life is not easy. She struggles to find work and to make ends meet. She is lonely and isolated, and she misses her family terribly.

One day, Anna receives a letter from Henrik. He has changed his mind and wants to be with her again. He apologizes for his behavior and asks for her forgiveness.

Anna is hesitant to forgive Henrik. She is still hurt and angry, and she does not know if she can trust him again. However, she realizes that she loves Henrik and that she wants to make things work.

Anna and Henrik work hard to rebuild their relationship. They go to counseling and try to figure out what went wrong in their marriage. They learn to communicate better and to appreciate each other more.

In the end, Anna and Henrik are able to repair their broken marriage. They are happy together again and their children are proud of them.

Personal Confessions is a powerful and emotional novel that explores the complexities of love and marriage. It is a testament to the strength of human relationships and the power of forgiveness.
