  • More about Republic P-43 Lancer

During the Russian Revolution, Georgia-born Aleksander Siewierski created the Seversky Aero Corporation and employed Alexander Kartvelli as his primary designer. The P-35 fighter was created as a result of his initiatives, but financial issues led to his dismissal, and the company was renamed Republic Aviation Corporation. The XP-41 high-altitude fighter prototype was built, but many of its features were used in the AP-4 and P-43.

Aleksander Siewierski, a native of Georgia, found himself in the United States in 1917, coinciding with the outbreak of the Russian Revolution. Under the alias of Alexander Seversky, he established the Seversky Aero Corporation. Alexander Kartvelli, another Georgian, became the primary designer for this venture. However, financial challenges led to Seversky's termination, and the company underwent a name change to Republic Aviation Corporation. Despite this setback, the projects initiated and developed by Seversky, notably the P-35 fighter, continued to thrive.

The P-35 fighter, through its further evolution, saw the preparation of a design for the XP-41 high-altitude fighter equipped with a turbocharger. While only a prototype of the XP-41 was built, many of its innovative solutions found their way into the advanced aircraft known as the AP-4 and eventually culminated in the P-43.

Seversky's contributions to aviation engineering were significant, and his legacy continues to inspire and influence the field. His innovative designs and engineering prowess played a crucial role in the development of military aircraft during World War II, and his contributions have left a lasting impact on the aviation industry.
