Sadie's one-night stand with the new office temp, Joao, takes an unexpected turn when Joao confesses his love for her. Initially flattered, Sadie is cautious due to her past experiences with terrible relationships. She questions whether she can truly be happy in love. Seeking guidance, Sadie turns to her long-deceased uncle Red, her abusive ex-husband Clark, and her new therapist, Mairead. Together, they help her confront the dark secrets she has been hiding for far too long. Lyric Theatre Belfast, in collaboration with Stephen Reas Field Day Theatre Company, presents this powerful new play on stage, which will also be broadcast on BBC Four as part of BBC Arts' "Lights up for the new Culture in Quarantine Season." This celebration of British theatre features newly recorded staged productions from UK theatres, reaching audiences across television, radio, iPlayer, and BBC Sounds. Directed by Conleth Hill (Lord Varys, Game of Thrones), the play stars award-winning actress Abigail McGibbon.

Sadie's past relationships have left her with a deep fear of love. She has been hurt and betrayed, and it's hard for her to trust anyone. When she meets Joao, she is drawn to him because he is different from the men she has dated before. He is kind, caring, and respectful of her. But as their relationship progresses, Sadie starts to realize that Joao has a dark past. He has been hurt by someone in the past, and it has left him with scars. Sadie tries to help him heal, but she soon realizes that she is getting too involved in his life. She starts to feel like she is taking on too much responsibility, and she begins to distance herself from Joao. But it's too late. Joao has fallen in love with Sadie, and he won't let her go. He becomes obsessive and controlling, and he starts to threaten her if she doesn't do what he wants. Sadie is scared and trapped. She doesn't know what to do. She turns to her uncle Red for advice. He has been through a similar experience in the past. He tells her that she needs to stand up for herself and that she doesn't deserve to be treated like this. Sadie takes his advice, and she confronts Joao. He is shocked by her bravery, and he starts to change. He realizes that he has been hurting Sadie, and he apologizes for his behavior. But Sadie knows that she can't trust him. She breaks up with him, and he becomes angry and violent. He threatens to hurt her if she ever comes back. Sadie is scared and alone. She doesn't know what to do. She turns to her therapist, Mairead. Mairead helps her to understand that she is not responsible for Joao's behavior. She tells her that she needs to take care of herself and that she should never let anyone control her. Sadie starts to heal. She realizes that she is strong and that she can overcome anything. She starts to date again, but this time she is more cautious. She takes her time to get to know the men she dates, and she doesn't rush into anything. She learns to trust her instincts, and she doesn't let anyone take advantage of her. Sadie's journey is not easy, but she learns important lessons about love and self-worth. She realizes that she is worthy of love and that she doesn't need to be controlled by anyone. She becomes a stronger and more confident woman, and she is proud of who she is.
