- More about Sexual Adjustment in Marriage
Sexual instruction was still a problem in the 1950s, with high levels of sexual neurosis among women, sexual compatibility problems, and the spread of venereal disease. Dr. Henry Olsen's Textbook on Sexual Hygiene was widely used in Denmark and was divided into subjects such as The Sex Organs, Living Together, Disturbances in a Couples Sex Life, Sex Life of the Unmarried, Fertilization, Pregnancy and Childbirth, Sexual Abnormalities, and Diseases of Sex Life. The book aimed to give all that one needed for a basic understanding of the elementary laws of sexual life, from the genes and chromosomes of one's make-up to the sex education of one's children.

Sexual instruction remained a significant concern in the 1950s, despite the prevalent freedom of discussion. The prevalence of so-called sexual neurosis among women, challenges in sexual compatibility, and the spread of venereal diseases all highlighted the urgent need for responsible information.
Dr. Henry Olsen, in his comprehensive survey of sexual adjustment, draws upon a vast and deeply rooted experience. Since 1937, he has been closely associated with the instruction in sexual hygiene in Denmark, where most public schools and high schools incorporated it into their curricula. At the time, nearly all 1,232 public libraries had copies of his textbook, Textbook on Sexual Hygiene.
Sexual Adjustment in Marriage is exceptionally well-written and organized. It is divided into subjects of utmost importance, including The Sex Organs, Living Together, Disturbances in a Couples Sex Life, Sex Life of the Unmarried, Fertilization, Pregnancy, and Childbirth, Sexual Abnormalities, and Diseases of Sex Life. Each of the sixteen main sections is further divided into chapters, each numbered for easy reference.
It is important to note that knowledge alone cannot shield individuals from all the complexities and challenges in the realm of sexual life. However, this book aimed to provide a foundational understanding of the fundamental laws, ranging from the genes and chromosomes of one's makeup to the sex education of one's children. While the language and views portrayed may reflect the era in which it was written, it is intended without offense.
This book is a re-issue of the original publication from 1954.
