The book aimed to give all that one needed for a basic understanding of the elementary laws of sexual life, from the genes and chromosomes of one's make-up to the sex education of one's children.

At the time, nearly all 1,232 public libraries had copies of his textbook, Textbook on Sexual Hygiene.
