"Readers will be deeply grateful to thelate Peter Oram for giving new life to thework of a major Russian poet who hasnever been fully recognized in the English-speakingworld - even if his haunting wordshave been heard in Russian by the millionswho have seen his son's film Mirror.Arseny Tarkovsky lived through theSoviet period from beginning to end, preserving his inner independence andleaving a precious legacy of memorablelyrics that achieve a dream-like potencyof suggestion.
