In the late 1930s, Hollywood was a place of glamour and intrigue, but it was also a dark and dangerous place. Raymond Chandler, a writer of detective stories for pulp magazines, was known for his hard-boiled prose and his love of alcohol. Boris Karloff, on the other hand, was a famous actor who played monsters in the movies and was a genial, cricket-playing member of the British filmland colony on the shores of the Pacific. Despite their differences, Chandler and Karloff shared a bond that only those who lived in exile could understand. They both knew that these streets were dark with something more than night. Together, they investigated mysterious matters in a town run by human and inhuman monsters.
One such case was the investigation of Home House, a mock gothic mock mansion that was the home of a film mogul. Under Home House, there was a mad science dungeon, just like in the movies, where an experiment had gone dangerously wrong or even more dangerously right. Fiery death spilled onto Sunset Boulevard, and John Devlin, an investigator for the District Attorney's office who was known for his insubordination, and Laurel Ives, a woman with as many lives as a cat and names to match, barely escaped Home House. Fired by the DA, Devlin enlists the help of Raymond Chandler and William Pratt, better known as Boris Karloff, to work the case.
The case threatens to expose Hollywood's most horrific secrets, and the people involved will find out more than they should about the way this town works. They will also learn about each other, and about the monsters that lurk in the shadows. And, as they delve deeper into the case, they will discover that monsters are not just for the movies.
In conclusion, Hollywood in the late 1930s was a place of glamour and danger, and Raymond Chandler and Boris Karloff were two of its most famous residents. Together, they investigated mysterious matters in a town run by human and inhuman monsters, and they discovered that monsters were not just for the movies.
