These seventy-five works are the culmination of seventeen years of exploration from our San Francisco office, where we have sought to create fitting contemporary architecture within the highly conservative terrain of this admired city. Through our local endeavors, we have also had the opportunity to work nationally. The projects presented here encompass allied explorations of Outsides and Insides, Places and Programs, Contexts and Contents.
Outsides revolve around the construction of an evolving city with a sense of continuity. Given that housing constitutes over 80% of urban fabric, urban grain primarily consists of dwellings, and multifamily housing has become a central focus of our work. We have delved into ways to be both contextual and contemporary simultaneously, particularly in the realm of multifamily housing.
On the other hand, Insides revolve around the concept of blankness and emptiness, aimed at providing indeterminate shelter that allows occupants to inhabit space at their discretion. This approach fosters a sense of freedom and flexibility in the way spaces are utilized.
Through these diverse explorations, we have sought to push the boundaries of architectural design and create spaces that are both functional and aesthetically appealing, while also responding to the unique characteristics and challenges of their respective contexts.
