  • More about The Logic of Gilles Deleuze: Basic Principles

French philosopher Gilles Deleuze wrote two logic books, Francis Bacon: The Logic of Sensation and The Logic of Sense, which employ non-classical logics such as fuzzy, intuitionist, and many-valued. Corry Shores argues that Deleuze's logic is best understood as a dialetheic, paraconsistent, many-valued logic, based on the philosophical and logical writings of Graham Priest.

French philosopher Gilles Deleuze is known for his two logic books, Francis Bacon: The Logic of Sensation and The Logic of Sense. However, he does not use classical logic in these works or any other of his writings. Instead, he employs non-classical logics such as fuzzy, intuitionist, and many-valued logics. These logics are suitable for his concepts of heterogeneous composition and becoming, affirmative synthetic disjunction, and powers of the false. In his book, "The Logic of Gilles Deleuze: Basic Principles," Corry Shores explores the applicability of these non-classical logics to Deleuze's philosophy. Shores argues that Deleuze's logic is best understood as a dialetheic, paraconsistent, and many-valued logic. Dialetheism is a philosophical position that asserts the existence of true contradictions. Shores builds his argument by drawing on the philosophical and logical writings of Graham Priest, a leading proponent of dialetheism. By doing so, Shores provides a comprehensive analysis of Deleuze's logic and its relationship to dialetheism.
