  • More about The Morgan 3 Wheeler: - back to the future!

The Morgan Motor Company decided to return to its origins and launch a new 3-Wheeler due to restrictive legislation on emissions and accident safety in the USA. The 3-Wheeler, classed as a motorcycle, bypassed these requirements and was based on the Liberty Ace. The model was designed and engineered in a short period and was launched at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Orders flooded in, leading to considerable complications, making it a quintessentially English sports car with an American engine and Japanese gearbox.

In the early years of the 21st century, the Morgan Motor Company made a bold decision to revisit its roots by reintroducing a new 3-Wheeler. This decision was driven by several factors, one of which was the inability to sell its four-wheelers in the United States due to the increasingly stringent legislation on emissions and accident safety. These regulations made it prohibitively expensive for a small manufacturer like Morgan to meet these requirements.

Fortunately, the 3-Wheeler, classified as a motorcycle, circumvented these complex regulations. Coincidentally, the starting point for the new model was an American three-wheeler called the Liberty Ace, which was a modernized recreation of the V-Twin Morgan Super Sports from the 1930s.

Morgan then embarked on a remarkable journey, designing and engineering the new 3-Wheeler in an astonishingly short period. The management initially expected to sell a few hundred units of the 3-Wheeler, but their expectations were far exceeded after the vehicle's launch at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Orders flooded in, leading to considerable complications for the company.

This is the story of how all of this unfolded, showcasing the unique blend of American engineering and Japanese technology that resulted in a quintessentially English sports car. The 3-Wheeler's success not only revived the Morgan Motor Company but also highlighted the enduring appeal of classic British designs in the global automotive market.
