  • More about The Painter Le Corbusier: Eileen Gray's Villa E 1027 and Le Cabanon

E. 27, built in 1929 by Irish architect and designer Eileen Gray for herself and her young lover, the Romanian architect Jean Badovici, is a design classic. The villa, known for its elegance and nautical references, is considered a gem of modernism. Badovici invited Le Corbusier to create eight large-format murals on the walls of the villa, despite the owner's objections. The publication showcases the paintings and recounts the unusual story. Manuel Bougot's captivating photographs capture the unique atmosphere of the villa. Le Corbusier's lesser-known paintings, which focused on polychromy, influenced his lifelong exploration of color. After extensive renovations, the villa E. 27, along with the Cabanon, is once again open to the public.
