“God, she's funny” – Jilly Cooper
‘Oh, for f*cks sake, muttered Claire under her breath, as she opened the fridge to see what she could find for a no-effort dinner. The children continued to fight behind her. They regarded any form of fish not encased in breadcrumbs as toxic and were resistant enough to the delicious homemade fish fingers Claire had made for them, insisting they much preferred Captain Birdseyes version. White wine was starting to look like quite an appealing dinner, actually. Maybe just a small glass.
‘Are you having wine, Mum? You know you're not supposed to have wine every night. We did about alcohol units at school. That's quite a big glass of wine; how many units do you think are in it? Bet the bastards didn't tell you that wine is remarkably good at canceling out whining, though, did they? muttered Claire.
Claire's family has gone nuclear. Her precious moppets keep calling Childline when she feeds them broccoli, she's utterly Ottolenghied out at weekends, and her darling husband is having an affair with her best friend.
The question isn't whether she needs a glass of wine, but is there one big enough? Enter the Sauvignon Sisterhood, a new set of friends brought together by a shared love of liquid therapy. Together, they might just be able to convince Claire that, like a good bottle of red, life really can get better with age. Or at least there's more to it than the joy of an M&S non-iron school uniform.
The Sauvignon Sisterhood is a group of women who have found solace in their love of wine. They meet regularly at a local bar, sharing stories and sipping on their favorite vintages. Claire, a middle-aged mother of two, is a member of the Sisterhood. She has been struggling with the stress of her family's problems and the demands of her job.
One night, Claire attends a Sisterhood meeting and meets a woman named Sarah. Sarah is a vibrant and outgoing woman who has a zest for life that Claire finds inspiring. Sarah introduces Claire to a new wine that she has discovered, a Sauvignon Blanc from a small vineyard in France. Claire is hesitant at first, but Sarah convinces her to try it.
To Claire's surprise, she loves the wine. It has a crisp, refreshing taste that is perfect for a hot summer day. She starts to drink it more and more often, and soon finds that it helps her relax and unwind after a long day.
As Claire becomes more involved in the Sisterhood, she meets other women who are going through similar struggles. She learns that many of them have found that wine has become a source of comfort and companionship. They share their stories and offer each other support and encouragement.
Through the Sisterhood, Claire learns that life is not always easy, but that there is always something to be grateful for. She discovers that there is beauty in the world, even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. She also learns that she is not alone in her struggles and that there are people who care about her and want to help her.
One day, Claire receives a call from her husband. He confesses that he is having an affair with her best friend. Claire is devastated and feels like her world has come crashing down. She turns to the Sisterhood for support.
The women in the Sisterhood rally around Claire, offering her love and support. They help her through the difficult days and weeks that follow, and offer her words of encouragement and wisdom. Claire slowly begins to heal and find hope for the future.
Through the Sisterhood, Claire learns that wine is not just a drink, but a source of strength and resilience. She discovers that there is always something to be grateful for, even in the darkest of times. She also learns that she is stronger than she ever thought possible and that she can overcome any obstacle that comes her way.
In the end, Claire emerges from the Sisterhood with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper appreciation for the things that matter most in life. She is grateful for the love and support of her friends, and for the lessons that they have taught her. She knows that life will never be easy, but she is ready to face it with courage and resilience, and with a glass of wine in her hand.
