Maya's life is characterized by a sense of safety, predictability, and quietness. She spends her days at the same job she has held for years, watching Bollywood movies with her parents in the evenings, and eating out at the same restaurant with her childhood best friend on Saturday nights. However, her life takes a sudden turn when she meets Noah on the Underground. For twenty glorious minutes, her life becomes filled with excitement as they talk and share their dreams. However, their encounter abruptly ends when Noah jumps off the train, leaving behind a notebook containing a list of thirty things he wants to do before he turns thirty. Maya is crushed by the sudden ending to what could have been her happily ever after and decides to challenge herself to work through the items on Noah's list, secretly hoping that while climbing out of her rut and literally climbing mountains, she may find Noah as well as herself. Instead, she meets Zakariya, an annoying suitor brought to her by her parents through a dodgy marriage CV. Maya struggles to compare Zakariya, a flawed, real-life person, to the man in the notebook, who represents her idealized version of love.
