Alberto Moreiras delves into a profound exploration of intellectual existence within the confines of suspended time and isolated conditions in his captivating book, Uncanny Rest. Drawing from his personal experiences during the initial months of the coronavirus pandemic, Moreiras delves into the boundaries and potentialities of critical thought in the realm of the infrapolitical—the conditions of existence that transcend conventional understandings of politics and philosophy. Through a series of dated entries, he navigates the process of crafting a lifetime of thought and writing, while simultaneously seeking to understand the essence of thought in a world where everyday coordinates have shifted. This book offers nothing short of a phenomenology of thinking, unveiling the intricate ways in which thought permeates and intertwines with the fabric of life. At a pivotal juncture where memories converge, conversations with both living and deceased interlocutors evolve, and thinking during a suspended state becomes provisional and uncertain, Moreiras reveals the profound intricacies of thought's temporal and spatial dimensions. Uncanny Rest is a testament to the power of introspection and the enduring relevance of critical thinking in an ever-changing world.
