  • More about Unununimimimdededesign

Design has been learned and unlearned, done and undone, patriarchised and depatriarchised, colonized and decolonized, centralized and decentralized, and so forth, making schools appear unstable and impermanent. Unununimimimimdesign aims to reflectively pause and build upon the knowledge, thoughts, hesitations and discomforts that accompany it, offering divergent views from within and upon design discourse and education.

Design has undergone significant transformations over the past few years, experiencing processes of learning, undoing, patriarchy, depatriarchization, colonization, and decentralization. This has led to a sense of instability and impermanence within schools, with departments appearing to be wandering and unsettled. The question arises: if design is undergoing such profound changes, what is it that is being done, made, and learned? "Unununimimimimdededesign" seeks to explore this question by presenting diverse perspectives from within and outside the design discourse and education. It does not aim to provide solutions or fix the hesitant state, but rather to reflectively pause and build upon the knowledge, thoughts, hesitations, and discomforts that accompany it. The publication is a collaborative effort, with contributions from participants and alumni of The Critical Inquiry Lab, as well as from individuals involved in the process of developing it. The participants include Viktoria Kaslik, Cecilia Casabona, Lara Chapman, Maxime Benvenuto, Josh Plough, Fernand Bretillot, Ram. n Jimenez Cardenas, Janfer Chung, Tiiu Meiner, and Sofia Irene Marmolejo Bijnsdorp. Additionally, Rana Ghavami and her students have shared their thoughts, ideas, and feedback, and Anja Kaiser and Rebecca Stephany have engaged in an insightful conversation. The publication also acknowledges the contributions of all other engaged individuals involved in the process.
