  • More about Weaving an Otherwise: In-Relations Methodological Practice

This book reconceptualizes qualitative research as an in-relations process that centers on, fully concerns with, and lifts up those who have been dispossessed, harmed, dehumanized, and erased due to white supremacy, settler colonialism, or other hegemonic world views. It prompts scholars to make connections between themselves as "researchers" and affect, ancestors, community, family, and kinship, space, and place, and the more-than-human beings with whom they are always already in community. It also explores the modes and ways of knowing through which we approach our research and how the practice of research can bring us closer to the peoples, places, more-than-human beings, histories, presents, and futures in which we are embedded and connected.

Through my research, I am bearing witness to the experiences and perspectives of individuals and communities who have been marginalized and oppressed due to systemic inequalities. My research aims to shed light on the ways in which these systems perpetuate harm and discrimination, and to advocate for transformative change.

In my research, I make several claims about who and what matters. Firstly, I argue that the experiences and perspectives of marginalized and oppressed individuals and communities are essential to understanding the world and addressing social justice issues. Secondly, I believe that dominant narratives and ideologies often overlook or erase the voices of these individuals and communities, and that it is crucial to challenge and dismantle these narratives. Thirdly, I suggest that research can be a powerful tool for promoting social change and empowerment, as it can provide evidence to support marginalized voices and advocate for policy reforms.

However, my research also has limitations and gaps. One of the challenges I face is the lack of representation and diversity in research participants, which can limit the generalizability of my findings. Additionally, I may be influenced by my own biases and assumptions, which can affect the interpretation of my data. To address these challenges, I strive to engage in reflexive practice and to seek feedback from colleagues and participants to improve my research methods and analysis.

In conclusion, my research is centered on the experiences and perspectives of marginalized and oppressed individuals and communities, and aims to shed light on the ways in which systemic inequalities perpetuate harm and discrimination. Through my research, I make several claims about who and what matters, and believe that research can be a powerful tool for promoting social change and empowerment. However, I also recognize the limitations and gaps in my research, and strive to improve my methods and analysis to ensure that my findings are accurate, relevant, and impactful.
