What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside is a rhyming adventure book about a ladybird who stops two bad men from stealing a mermaid's hair.

Format: Board book
Length: 24 pages
Publication date: 14 April 2022
Publisher: Pan Macmillan

The clever little ladybird is off on a trip to the seaside, but those two bad men, Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len, are up to their wicked ways again. This time, they're planning to steal the mermaid's hair and sell it to a famous star. Luckily, the crime-busting ladybird has a clever plan to stop the thieves.

She disguises herself as a mermaid and swims to the sea, where she meets the mermaid's friend, a wise old octopus. The octopus tells her that the mermaid's hair is very special and that only a few people have ever seen it. He also tells her that the two bad men are planning to sell it to a mysterious woman who lives in a castle on the top of a mountain.

The ladybird is determined to stop them and sets out on a mission to find the castle. She travels through the forest, over the mountains, and through the rivers until she finally reaches the castle. There, she finds the two bad men and the mysterious woman.

The ladybird confronts the two bad men and tells them that they have no right to steal the mermaid's hair. The two bad men are scared of the ladybird and give up their plan. The mysterious woman, however, is not so easily fooled. She tries to buy the ladybird's hair, but the ladybird refuses.

The mysterious woman then reveals that she is actually a fairy and that the mermaid's hair is a magical object that can grant wishes. The fairy offers to give the ladybird a wish if she will give her the mermaid's hair. The ladybird is tempted, but she knows that it is not right to steal the mermaid's hair.

The ladybird then uses her cleverness to outsmart the fairy. She tells the fairy that she will only give her the mermaid's hair if the fairy promises to use it for good. The fairy agrees and gives the ladybird the mermaid's hair.

The ladybird returns to the seaside with the mermaid's hair and gives it to the mermaid. The mermaid is overjoyed and thanks the ladybird for her kindness. The two bad men are punished for their crimes and the mysterious woman is banished from the castle.

The clever little ladybird has saved the day and proved that even the smallest creatures can make a big difference. The story teaches children the importance of kindness, bravery, and cleverness and reminds them that they can make a difference in the world.
