"The YEAR ZERO LOCKDOWN JOURNAL commenced on March 20, 2020, marking the inaugural day of the Los Angeles lockdown. I concluded this remarkable journey a year later, on March 19th, 2021.
On the very first day of the lockdown, I embarked on a bicycle ride through the desolate and eerily quiet streets of Los Angeles. Everything appeared familiar, yet profoundly altered. I took photographs, capturing the essence of that surreal moment, and returned to document my observations. I maintained this practice for the next twelve months, navigating through the personal and collective isolation, the tumultuous ups and downs of the pandemic, the gradual, cautious reopening of society, the politicization of the virus, the fervent protests against George Floyd's injustice, the consequential elections, the emergence of the Stop-the-Steal movement, and the tumultuous events surrounding the storming of the Capital.
Covid-19, a phenomenon that defied our wildest imagination and surpassed the realms of science fiction and dystopian nightmares, has indeed come to pass. The predictions of the writers and doomsayers have proven accurate, leaving us in this unprecedented reality. Each individual who has weathered Year Zero possesses their unique tale to share. Here, in the form of photographs and written narratives, I present mine.
